Make The Best Peppermint Ice Cream from Scratch

What better way to cool off that with some delicious homemade ice cream. The fabulous chef from Matchbox shows us how to make it from scratch.

  • 1 cup full fat milk, well chilled
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream, well chilled
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3/4 cup crushed hard peppermint candies

  1. In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer or a whisk to combine the milk and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved (about 1 – 2 minutes on low speed)
  2. Stir in the heavy cream, vanilla and peppermint extract and combine
  3. Turn your Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker on and pour the mixture into the freezer bowl through the ingredient spout
  4. Mix until thickened (about 25 – 30 minutes), adding the crushed peppermint candies during the last 5 minutes of mixing, then serve
  5. Optional: after 25 – 30 minutes, transfer mixture from Ice Cream Maker to the freezer for an extra 2 hours to ‘ripen’ before serving
